{"id":305,"date":"2014-05-15T12:00:49","date_gmt":"2014-05-15T11:00:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/s519078666.onlinehome.fr\/?page_id=305"},"modified":"2015-03-31T13:47:24","modified_gmt":"2015-03-31T12:47:24","slug":"current-research-and-trials","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.stargardt.fr\/en\/current-research-and-trials\/","title":{"rendered":"Current Research and Trials"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The paradox of Stargardt Disease<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Research for Stargardt disease has enabled the identification of the ABCA4 gene and a better understanding of the mechanism behind the disease. <\/strong>The fact that the disease is linked to only one gene is called \u201cthe paradox of Stargardt disease\u201d, as many researchers had predicted that this disease would be caused by a large number of genes. The ABCA4 gene was discovered in 1997 (Allikmets et al. Sciences. 1997).<\/p>\n<p>Scientists are currently trying to find a treatment, and different strategies are being considered: prevention, stopping the evolution of the disease, rehabilitation and\/or replacement of damaged cells\u2026<\/p>\n<p>A dozen or so research teams are working on this disease and on the development of specific, adapted, innovative products.
