{"id":376,"date":"2014-03-27T17:39:44","date_gmt":"2014-03-27T16:39:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/s519078666.onlinehome.fr\/?page_id=376"},"modified":"2015-04-08T09:11:05","modified_gmt":"2015-04-08T08:11:05","slug":"the-artificial-retina","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.stargardt.fr\/en\/current-research-and-trials\/the-artificial-retina\/","title":{"rendered":"The Artificial Retina"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>A retinal prosthesis: an additional line of research<\/h2>\n<p><strong>The artificial retina is a prosthesis which aims to palliate the loss and dysfunction of photoreceptor cells.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The idea behind the artificial retina is to generate an electrical activity in the still-functioning retinal cells: this signal is then transmitted to the brain via the optic nerve.<\/p>\n<p>The positioning of the implant, in contact with the retina, requires surgical intervention.<\/p>\n<p>This technique is currently reserved for blind people whose retinal nervous cells and optic nerves still work.
